Christmas time is coming!

Another year Madrid is preparing for the Christmas. The city is full of people and lights. This week, Madrid on the Net,  wanted to go to the heart of Madrid where thousands of people walk every day: the Puerta del Sol.

In this post we wanted to photograph the Puerta del Sol ready for Christmas , with lights that adorn the place and the famous Christmas tree. It is a obligatory visit tourist who come to Madrid.

In the Puerta del Sol there is, since 1950, the Kilometre Zero of the Spanish radial road. Besides the zero kilometer, the plaza has the famous clock tower in the building of the Post Office, whose make all Spanish people eat as tradition 12 grapes on 31 December each year.

The Puerta del Sol is an enigmatic place where there are many shops and restaurants to drink somthing but is true that at this time, the weather is so cold so… we recommend you approach to the San Ginés Chocolate Shop just 5 minutes from the Puerta del Sol, in the Calle Arenal. Prices are very low and they have the best chocolate. But… if you’d rather take something bigger you can try the typical squid sandwich in the Plaza Mayor just 5 minutes from the Puerta del Sol.

Puerta del Sol!!! I’m really looking forward to go there and have a squid sandwich… Fortunately, I’m going back to Spain in less than a week and I will be able to visit my hometown! 🙂

  2. Christmas mood: ON!! I just wish the area of Sol wasn´t so full of people shopping and walking around these hectic days, as it makes the experience somewhat stressing… But there is something so definitely charming in there, with the lights and the busy atmosphere. And I can´t wait for another hot chocolate at San Ginés, what a delicious treat for chocoholics like me 😉

  3. Its essential to visit this place. At Christmas becomes as special place. As says Maribel the atmosphere on that place in afternoons-nights are amazing. I think it could be a good idea to write about San Gines because it deserves. For example, about the all the famous people, the differents chocolates…
